Intuitive doesn’t always play well with American grammar, Joe Varadi! Yes. Periods and commas ALWAYS go inside final quote marks, even if we’re only quote a single word at the end. It’s just our silly rule. Trust me, though; you’re in very good company!

And is it my use of the Oxford comma that bugs ya? I could write a book on it. But maybe a short article will do. Look for it next week. I will dedicate it to you. Probably Monday, because usually the day I publish an American grammar checkup article.
