I live just before Cape Cod, Dennett, not over the bridges, about five miles before them, in Buzzards Bay. I moved here about three years ago, thinking this would be a summer place (until I added up all the costs to own and operate two homes). Oops.
My little village is about a mile from the eastern edge of Wareham. Gorgeous views over Buttermilk Bay, but the thought of 60 mph winds is scary because we will likely lose power. And my house has electric heat, not gas. And it’s COLD here!
I do have a couple of friends here whose homes are gas-heated, so in a pinch, I can stay with one of them (my pups would be totally accepted). Let’s just hope it blows over without dropping any trees onto wires.
I love New England; I’m born and bred here. And I wouldn’t mind the storm so much if I could be sure we’d have power. I tried to buy a generator today; Home Depot totally sold out. Same for propane space heaters. And the same at Lowe’s and a couple of other places. Home Depot expects a huge shipment tonight, and I’ll be calling them at 6 a.m. to see if they got them in.
