Attention grammarians — in the American system, anyway!

When writing out possessive pronouns — do we use an apostrophe? Never? Always? Not sure?

Try this simple quiz — no peeking below, OK?

Choose the correct version of the possessive pronoun in each sentence.

That book is (her’s / hers / hers’).
That book is (their’s / theirs’ / theirs).
That book is (ours / our’s / ours’).
That book is (your’s / yours’ / yours). Author in Source Title

Did you take your best shot?

OK, based on what I’ve been seeing in posts recently, a lot of writers are making the same type of error involving possessive pronouns.

Maybe not you, though.
